SAPT Block Grant
SAMHSAs reauthorizing statute, PL 106-310 from October, 1, 2000, includes a provision to replace the SAPT Block Grant with Performance Partnership Grants. When fully implemented, these grants will give states and territories greater flexibility in how to obligate and spend funds for treatment and prevention services for people at risk for alcohol and other alcohol problem dallas addiction.
States and territories submit annual reports and plans to the federal government describing how they expended SAPT Block Grant funds during the previous fiscal year and how they intend to obligate funds available in the current fiscal year. States and territories design their services and delivery systems to address specific local substance abuse problems.
In addition to block grants, SAMHSA provides discretionary grants that are awarded to various levels of government as well as local groups, including community- and faith-based organizations, to meet new and emerging needs. Among these is the Targeted Capacity Expansion program, designed to address gaps in treatment capacity by responding to unmet local needs for alcohol and drug rehab dallas treatment services. Funds are provided to expand or enhance substance abuse treatment in local communities. For further information, visit http://www.samhsa.gov/programs/content/brief2002/MeetNeeds/tcep.htm.

Doctors Perspective on Meth Abuse

Doctors Perspective on Meth Abuse
Medical doctors share personal views during a special clinical panel about methamphetamine abuse.
Neuropsychological testing is provided if the person is psychotic upon entry at drug court. We repeat testing when the psychosis subsides, and we perform a third scan with neuropsych tests after six months of sobriety. The subjects are placed on low-doses of the new anti-psychotic medication risperidone (Risperdal). This is our best chance to do follow-up evaluations. Is the methamphetamine psychosis persistent? What about the abnormal blood flow pattern? Judge Aiona’s drug court may help provide some answers to a frightening concern. In Honolulu’s emergency rooms or police cell blocks, it looks like Armageddon. We must bring more scientific research to bear on this problem.
DR. LUKAS: As a researcher, I have been trained to live and die by statistics, but we cannot lose sight of the real-life stories and the faces behind those statistics, graphs or charts. Like a broken record, I cannot overemphasize that point enough. Because there is no silver bullet for drug abuse, medication development and opiate detox malibu research must proceed on many different fronts. This process goes on slowly, too slowly perhaps, indirectly contributing to an increase in the numbers. We must do better.

How can Family and Friends Help with Drug Rehab?
How Can Family and Friends Help with Recovery from the Substance Abuse?
They need to learn to stop enabling. Enabling is acting in ways that essentially help or encourage the person to maintain their habit of drinking or getting high. For instance, a woman whose husband routinely drinks too much, might call in sick for him when he is too drunk to go to work. Thats enabling. Likewise, family members or friends might give an addict money which is used to buy drugs, because theyre either sorry for him or afraid of him. Thats enabling also.
When family and friends participate in the recovery program, they learn how to stop enabling. If they act on what theyve learned, the recovering substance abuser is much less likely to relapse into drinking or taking drugs.
How Can Family and Friends Help with Recovery from a Psychiatric Condition?
They should be calm and understanding, rather than frightened or critical. They should be warm and open, rather than cool or cautious. Although it is fine to ask the person matter-of-factly about the psychiatric cocaine rehab malibu, that shouldnt be the only focus of conversation.
